實驗安全很重要,落實管理危害低,環境衛生保護好,營造永續綠校園

Starting Sept 2011, the Environmental Protection and Safety Center will manage the safety of biological related work of laboratories including planning, setting up, and promotion of all types of biology safety, and set short, medium, and long term targets to ensure the safety and health of lab personnel working on related biological experiments and handling biomaterials.

One.  The current status

1. Conduct biological safety educational training.

2. Conduct full scale investigation into the current status of university lab’s biology related experiments.

3. Establish self checking for safety within biological labs and the classification and inspection system of biological labs.

4. Establish a reporting system for infectious materials in labs above Class 2.

5. Establish a reporting and cleanup system of biohazard disposal materials.

Two. Future plans

(1) Short term objectives

1. Establish the checklist of infectious materials in Class 2 or high labs and complete the reporting operations.

2. Establish the safety review system and process for biological labs and related facilities.

3. Implement comprehensive safety inspection for all biological labs, and to coach biological labs to do self checking.

4. Invite expertise to assist in the assessment and review of biosafety in Class 2 labs.

5. Complete labeling operations for biological labs and related locations.

6. Establish annual plans and implement regular and irregular safety checks on biological labs.

7. Research and designate biosafety emergency response plans.

(2) Medium term objectives

1. Establish biological information computer management system:

        1) Biomaterial waste operational and management system

        2) Biomaterials operational and management system

        3) The bringing in or out the NSC Genomic Plan’s biomaterials and infectious materials safety review operations or applications for changes.

        4) The operation system for application and review of animal experiment projects

2. Coaching the improvement of software and hardware of Class 2 labs, and to help the improvement of hardware and software facilities of Class 1 labs conducting and handling E.coli, so that their safety rank can improve to conform to related operation rules and regulations.

3. Form expert groups to review the safety classification of biological labs, to initiate use of or close down  labs, and the management, investigation, and reporting of biological safety incidents.

4. To conform with and conduct regular environmental safety emergency drills.

(3) Long term objectives: To include the university’s animal experiments into the center’s biological safety management.
